Guide 6: Project Tracking

What's this Guide about?

One of the biggest issues in project management is tracking the project / updating the plan / monitoring and control. How do we ensure (a) that what the plan says should be happening is happening and (b) that what happens on the project is reflected in the plan? Project tracking is often not done at all / not done well / not done correctly.

This Guide describes the Project Manager's Daily Routine - the most foolproof and efficient way to track a project.

How is the Guide structured?

Section 1 of the Guide explains why the Daily Routine is so powerful.
Section 2 describes the Daily Routine.
Section 3 answers the question, 'Do I have to do the Daily Routine every day?'

This Guide makes reference to the previous Guide - #5 on Change Control.

What you get:

  • This Guide tells you how to operate effective change control on your project. It shows how there are only three responses possible to any change that occurs on a project. Without change control as one of these responses, the likelihood of the project succeeding is severely diminished
  • Without proper change control you also run the risk of burning out your team. This Guide shows you how to avoid this risk.
