Guide 5: Change Control

What's this Guide about?

One of the biggest mistakes project managers make is they believe that because they've committed to a plan / budget / schedule / deadline for the project, that this plan / budget / schedule / deadline must hold in all circumstances.

One of the main reasons why projects go wrong is inadequate, ineffective or no change control. This Guide teaches you everything you need to know about change control.

How is the Guide structured?

Section 1 of the Guide sets out the problem that we are trying to solve. It states why change control is such an issue for project managers.

Section 2 talks about change control on the Demand side - the work to be done - of the project manager's Supply-Demand equation.

Section 3 talks about change control on the Supply side - the people to do the work - of the project manager's Supply-Demand equation.

A References section at the end of the Guide gives you sources of further information.

What you get:

  • This Guide tells you how to operate effective change control on your project. It shows how there are only three responses possible to any change that occurs on a project. Without change control as one of these responses, the likelihood of the project succeeding is severely diminished
  • Without proper change control you also run the risk of burning out your team. This Guide shows you how to avoid this risk.© Fergus O'Connell 2003
